HOLLYWOOD EXCURSIONS

The first step was choosing a woofer. I chose Hollywood Excursions (X-1040-D) for a few reasons. Reason #1 is they slam! These woofers will go lower than most others' dare... due to the DWS (Double Wide Surround). Most 10" woofers play nicely around 50-60 HZ, you should hear these things hammer out 35 HZ!!! As far as SPL goes, these woofers are it! they have AMAZING SPL and still maintaining decent SQ. Reason #2 is they are designed for small air-space enclosures! You can take the 10's down to .3 cubic feet! The last reason is simple, THEY ARE CHEAP! Errrr, inexpensive is a better word, by no means are these "cheap" woofers... I spent less on six 10's than most people spend on two 12's!!! If you want a woofer that truly is designed for micro enclosures, has LFE (Low Frequency Extension) like nobody's business, and is VERY INEXPENSIVE... look no further than the Hollywood Excursions! ... made in the good 'ol USA!

After I chose the Excursions, the next step was deciding how many??? Hmmmm... six will do just fine!

Excursions come in either a 40 series or 80 series. The difference is minimal. The 80 series have a SLIGHTLY different surround and handle a little more power, that's it. I chose the 1040's because they are less expensive (the 1080's run about "average" for an "average" 10 inch woofer). *NOTE: The new 1055's replace the 1040's. They cost about the same, but handle 250 watts RMS instead of 175 (trust me, that is very under-rated!) and have a new magnet.

Then each sub was paralled down to a 2 Ohm load, they are 4 Ohm DVC's (Dual Voice Coil). The six subs were Paralled in two sets of three (.67 Ohms each), then seriesed together (.67 + .67 = 1.34 Ohms total). This is perfect for the RockFord BD1000, which is 1192 watts at 2 Ohms.
